THE FEET CAN MEASURE THE HEIGHT

The bones of the feet can tell a lot about a person. What do feet reveal about a person's height? Forensic anthropologists team up with law enforcers to help solve crimes.
Bones of the feet can reveal an interesting fact about an individual. Let's combine math with forensics to see how.

Image result for foot chart sizeImage result for foot to height ratio chart
Aim:  To use forensic science techniques to measure the height of a criminal.

Material:

  1.  Yourself
  2.  Ruler

Steps:

  1.  You need yourself and a buddy to help you measure your hight.
  2.  And you need a 1 m ruler.
  3.  And you measure you hight with the ruler.
Findings:

Name
Foot  (cm)
Height (cm)
Jeff26 cm1.45 cm
Kaedun29 cm1.56 cm
Ethan24 cm1.42 cm

15 is the number used by investigators to determine a person height based on their feet. This is because 15% of a person height is the length of their foot.

Find out what percentage of your height is your feet. To do this you need to:
Divide the length of each person's foot by his/her height then multiply it by 100.

15 is the number used by investigators to determine a person height based on their feet. This is because 15% of a person height is the length of their foot.

Aim: To learn about a saturated solution and how to make crystals
Definition of the solution
A liquid mixture, when something is dissolved into a liquid (eg: sugar in water)

Definition of saturated
Having or holding as much as can be absorbed of something (when no more sugar or borax can be dissolved into the water)

In groups of three, you will make three different types of crystals and compare the results.

Image result for borax crystals

Ratio; 3 Tablespoons Borax per 1/2 cup water

Materials

1) water
2)borax  solution
3)cup
4)peg
5)ape cleaner (star)

Process

Step 1: You need a cup
Step 2: You need warm water, and out the water in the cup.

Step 3: And you need borax, put the borax in the warm water, and mix up like 10 minutes.
Step 4: You need peg and ape cleaner, make the ape cleaner to a star shape.
Step 5: And put the ape cleaner the high one though the peg middle.
Step 6: And you put the ape cleaner in the water, but don't put the peg in there, just put the peg a bet high.
Step 7: And wait for 1 week, and you have crystals.

Sugar Crystals

Grow your own Sugar Crystals

Ratio: 1 cup sugar to 1/2 cup water

Materials

1)sugar solution
2)cup
3)string
4)stick
5)water

Process

Step 1: You need a cup
Step 2: You need warm water, and out the water in the cup.
Step 3: And you need sugar, put the sugar in the warm water, and mix up like 10 minutes.
Step 4: You need a string and a stick.
Step 5: Wrap the string on the stick.

Step 6: And put the stick in the cup, and wait for 1 week, and you have crystals.

Ratio: 4 Tablespoons salt to 1/2 cup water

Materials

1)sugar solution
2)cup
3)string
4)stick
5)water

Process

Step 1: You need a cup
Step 2: You need warm water, and out the water in the cup.
Step 3: And you need salt, put the salt in the warm water, and mix up like 10 minutes.
Step 4: You need a string and a stick.
Step 5: Wrap the string on the stick.

Step 6: And put the stick in the cup, and wait for 1 week, and you have crystals.

What crystals worked out best and why?:

Conclusion:

________________________________________________________________________

After watching the videos as a class, explain how the following crystals are formed:

Type
Explanation
Salt
Related image

The salt molecules are Na and Cl together and we have a crystal. Each crystal has different shapes, salts shape is like six-sided die.

Sugar
Related image
The water evaporates, and the sugar molecules to come out, and all the sugar crystal seeds on the string.

Snowflakes

A snowflake is beginning from when the very cold water onto a pollen or dust particle in the sky, and you have a snowflake.

Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.

Image result for filtration science experiment
Water Filtration Plant

What is the filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1.  Air
  2.  Oil
  3.  pool
  4. water

Materials

1.Funnel
2.Container
3.Filter paper
4. sand
5. pebbles
6. dirty water
7. scissors
8. cup

Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )

Step 1

Cut the bottle so the bottle is in two even parts and the top half of the bottle can be used as a funnel and the bottom can be used as a container

Step 2

Put the top half of the bottle upside down on top of the bottom piece.

STEP 3

Make a cone shape out of your filter paper and Add layers of sand inside of that cone and place the cone right way up inside of the funnel

STEP 4

After you have done that add 1 cup of pebbles and pour the pebbles inside the funnel as well then Get 1 cup of dirty water

STEP 5

Pour the dirty water into the funnel slowly and watch what the magic happen

Findings
I found out that if you pour the water fast the water would not really change but if you pour it slowly it would turn out pretty good

Drops per minute: 23
Watercolour: Light brown
Conclusion: I put the dirty water in the bottle and the dirty water is through the rocks sand and the paper, and I wait for 5 minutes and the water is bet clean, but the water now is better but the water looks still not really safe to drink.

Science

Aim: To see which chemical
the mix creates the most gas.

Hypothesis: (What do I think will happen)
I think the 3 tsp baking soda, 1/2 cup vinegar well be the most balloon size.

Materials:
Image result for baking soda balloons
  1.  baking soda
  2.  Warm water
  3.  Sugar
  4.  Yeast
  5.  Bottle
  6.  Balloon
  7. Salt
  8. Soda water
  9. Funnel
  10. Vinegar
Steps:
  1. balloon 1, we tack 1 bottle out, and we put 2 tsp yeast and 1tsp sugar in the bottle and put some warm water in, and put a balloon on the top, wait for 20 minutes.
  2. balloon 2, we tack 1 bottle out and put 3 tsp baking soda and 1/2 cup vinegar in the bottle and put a balloon on the top, wait for 20 minutes.
  3. balloon 3, we tack 1 bottle out and 3 Tsp salt, 1/2 cup soda in the bottle and put a balloon on the top, wait for 20 minutes.
